OOMOMO is a Japanese lifestyle brand that specializes in Japanese home essential products. To better represent its brand OOMOMO is associated with an iconic mascot cat. For this project, my task was to design a set of Japanese kimono costumes for the cat, drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese garments to represent Japanese tradition and establish a connection with the iconic mascot cat.
To best align the cat kimono costumes with the brand, I chose to incorporate the brand's color palette, which prominently features pink and sakura (cherry blossom). Sakura, being Japan's national flower, not only bears the color pink but also holds deep cultural significance. The primary focus of the design was the pink color, executed in a gradient from a vibrant shade to a lighter one. This gradient was complemented by the inclusion of sakura flower patterns throughout the design.
In designing this kimono outfit, I researched traditional Japanese kimonos, which consist of key elements like the waistband, cord, bow knot, and accessory, each with specific roles and names in Japan. The challenge lay in selecting and adapting these elements to best suit the brand and cat mascot.
